GIOIA MARIA MORISCO CASTELLI

TEACHER OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE

Gioia has started to study dance in Paris, at La Mènagierie de Verre and the Peter Goss Dance School. When she returned to Italy, she got a degree in Philosophy at the University of Bologna and decided to dedicate her life to dance. In Milan, she has studied classical ballet and contemporary dance at the Accademia Danza, directed by Susanna Beltrami, and in 2009 she graduated with first class honours.
During her training at the academy, she started her personal creative research with a group she directed. With this group she took part in various festivals and contests and gained several praises. She also started her teaching experience at the AccademiaDanza, organizing a series of choreographic composition workshops in occasion of the third year of the “Professional Training Program”. In 2008, the production of the work THINGS allowed her to be selected and join the CHOREOGRAPHIC COLLISION Part 3, a choreographic training course realized by the Venice Biennale and the Danzavenezia Association. In this context, she met Ismael Ivo, director of the Venice Dance Biennale and her workmate in 2010. The same year she participated in the project of Arsenale della Danza, within the Venice Biennale. In Venice, she has been selected for studying and working with various important artists such as Marie Chouinard, Jasmine Godder, Itziki Giuli, Francesca Harper (soloist dancer of William Forsythe’s Ballet Frankfurt), Kenji Takagi (dancer of Pina Bausch’s Wuppertal Tanz theatre), Geyvan McMille and Tan Temel (Instanbul Dance Theatre), Jose Navas (Flak Companies), Daniel Lèveillé (Lèveillé Dance Company), Inaki Azpillaga (assistant at the Ultima Vez), W. Vandekeybus and the Japanese master Ryuzo Fukuhara. Since 2011 she has been soloist dancer of the Artemis Danza Company directed by Monica Casadei, with whom she has toured in Italy and abroad.
